Marathon Men

August 30, 2008 by nabityphotos, posted in Commentary on City Life

12-03-2006 The 24th Annual California International Marathon ran through Sacramento today. Over 5,000 runners participated in the full marathon, which is ranked in the top 5 for Boston-Marathon-qualifiers. The marathon started in Folsom and ends near the capitol building in downtown. These guys were running past the 25 mile post; they looked like they were just … Continue reading Marathon Men

Twilight Blue

August 30, 2008 by nabityphotos, posted in Commentary on City Life

11-19-2006 Sacramento does a pretty good job of keeping the central city area lively and liveable. Many cities allow their middle town areas to suffer while the priorities move out to the suburbs. The central part of the city of Sacramento has many new commercial and residentail buildings, offering a base of residents to attract … Continue reading Twilight Blue

Salmon Chanted Morning

August 30, 2008 by nabityphotos, posted in Commentary on City Life

11-11-2006During this time of year, the salmon migrate upstream along the American River. Fishermen like to get out really early and line up a nice buffet spread for the salmon, hoping to adopt one to bring home and occupy a large pan. On this morning, the sunlight hit the water and created a very moody … Continue reading Salmon Chanted Morning

Passing gas

August 30, 2008 by nabityphotos, posted in Commentary on City Life

10-10-2006When ten people order dinner at a restaurant and ask for separate checks, the server frowns at them. However, when ten apartments all share the same natural gas supply, they each get a separate meter. I bet the gas company never comes up short or gets stiffed on the tip.Seems like the restaurants could learn … Continue reading Passing gas

Morning blast – no foam

August 30, 2008 by nabityphotos, posted in Commentary on City Life

10-02-2006There is nothing soft about this image. The light is harsh, the concrete is unforgiving, and air heats up quickly. With a sight like this first thing in the morning, who needs coffee? ◄ ♦ ►

Over the Boardwalk

August 30, 2008 by nabityphotos, posted in Commentary on City Life, Funusual Images

09-16-2006The Giant Dipper rollercoaster has been rocking and rolling at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk since 1924 (the year before my mother was born). By today's rollercoaster standards, it is pretty tame. There are no loops or spirals, no straight free-falls, and you don't go backwards. It is however, still my favorite. I think some … Continue reading Over the Boardwalk

Chalk one up to history

August 30, 2008 by nabityphotos, posted in Commentary on City Life

09-05-2006Every year on Labor Day weekend, our city sponsors a local art event called Chalk It Up. This event supports local children's art programs by selling squares of a sidewalk to artists to decorate with chalk. The sidewalk surrounds a local park, the size of one city block. This particular sidewalk square reminds us that September … Continue reading Chalk one up to history

One man’s trash…

August 30, 2008 by nabityphotos, posted in Commentary on City Life

08-20-2006Every year, the city sets up Annual Neighborhood Clean Up Days. Instead of residents hauling trash to the dump, the city comes down our street and hauls it away for us. All we have to do it place the junk at the curb. It's a great convenience. The City Annual Neighborhood Clean Up Day (CANCUD) … Continue reading One man’s trash…

What a difference 17 years makes

August 30, 2008 by nabityphotos, posted in Commentary on City Life

08-11-2006Sometimes in your life you grab a few friends and take off for a road trip for the heck of it. And at some point on the way, someone in the group says, "Hey, let's take a picture!"The top photo was taken in 1989 at the lagoon of the Disneyland Hotel in Anaheim. Our kids … Continue reading What a difference 17 years makes
