The real dog paddle

08-02-2006

We can learn a lot from dogs. They don’t plan, or fret, or scheme…they just do.

Take swimming, for example. If you toss a three-year-old dog into a swimming pool, he swims. Pure and simple. If you toss a three-year-old kid into a swimming pool, he’ll sink like a spastic rock. Then you gotta jump in after him, pull him out, shake the water out of his lungs and reassure him that he’s fine. Not only that, you’ll also have to deal with the police, Child Protective Services, angry in-laws, legal bills, 27 years of therapy for the kid and all the guilt that comes with proving a point.

Take my advice…swim with the dog.
